Bird Watching and Kiting between St Cyprien and Canet

We visited St Cyprien on the afternoon of Saturday 6th February. We parked in the car park at the etang nature reserve and went for a walk to the etang water’s edge. We wanted to check out what birds were there and took a few photos. The etangs are lagoons with a mixture of salt and fresh water near the coast, with a variety of habitat and wildlife. They form a stopping off point for bird migrations and have their own populations of water birds. You’ll also find some preserved fisherman’s reed thatched houses there and viewing platform.

The etang here is separated from the dunes and the beach just by the coast road, so we crossed the road and walked across to the beach, which was a hive of activity. It was quite windy and the kite flyers, kite-surfers and wind-surfers were out in force taking advantage of the conditions.
